Before taking the knowledge test or practical exam (checkride) you should be looking through every element in every applicable task and ask yourself “Am I confident about this?” And if the answer is “No”, use your instructor and the task references to help you learn/practice what the FAA wants you to know, consider & do to pass the exams. Below are just some of the key differences from the PTS for each task…
SFAR 73 Changes 2024
What a big year for changes in the US helicopter industry – first the switch from PTS to ACS for helicopter pilot certification and now changes to SFAR 73 (effective August 22nd, 2024). Special Federal Aviation Regulation, No. 73 (or SFAR 73 for short) is a set of rules that apply to anyone who wants to manipulate the flight controls, act as Pilot In Command (PIC), carry passengers, or teach in Robinson R22 and R44…

I am 75 years ‘young’, living alone here in Columbus, Ohio. I enlisted in the Army in 1969 to become a helicopter pilot when the war was slowly coming to an end; I was not offered the opportunity to receive my helicopter training. To satisfy my desire to fly a helicopter, I am investing in learning to fly radio-control helicopters – from A to Z. I have discovered your 30+ helicopter training videos and I will be training mentally to fly helicopters here in my apartment through your videos. I found a 2 hour 30 minute video on youtube allowing me to watch 50 takeoffs and landings in helicopters in different locations. I enjoy watching 6 helicopter rescue videos from a video series called ‘Alpine Rescue’. THANK YOU for your videos. I am daily motivated to be excited about ‘life’ and I have the strongest desire to keep myself safe and healthy regarding the coronavirus. CONTINUED SUCCESS to you as you train the helicopter pilots for the future. Respectfully, Ralph King.

Thank you for the kind comments. And thank you for the other video suggestions – the Alpine Rescue looks good.
I have flown a few RC helicopters in the past. Harder than the real thing to me!! 😉
Try a ‘rooftop approach’ to a pile of books with a fan blowing to simulate the wind up/down drafts.
Stay safe and please keep us updated with your progress,
